Even though hardware makers don't usually release any new product without trying to turn some heads, it seems that Western Digital did not care much for a so-called protocol this time around and has released a new Caviar Black hard drive based on the next-generation SATA 6.0 Gbps interface. Having introduced it without much fuss is rather unusual, considering the fact that this next-generation standard is still a way off from becoming mainstream.
The SATA 6.0 Gbps interface is quite superior to the SATA 3.0 Gbps. It completely outmatches this predecessor in both read and write capabilities, setting the stage for new performance standards for hard drives and solid-state drives. Still, the technology is not extremely easy to come by, as only a limited number of motherboards exist with this functionality built into them. In addition, storage units based on this new standard are just as rare as are adapter cards. Still, with this latest addition from Western Digital, they are at least a step closer to becoming widespread.

The new hard disk drive from Western Digital is called the Caviar Black WD1002FAEX and uses the 3.5-inch form factor. It is built with 1TB of storage space and works at a rotary speed of 7,200 rotations per minute (RPM). In addition, the storage unit features a buffer memory of 64MB and its sound output, while seeking, is of 33 dBA. The drive will play the part of a faster alternative to the SATA 3.0 Gbps model, whose codename is WD1001FALS.

Unfortunately, the Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX is, currently, only available in Japan, where it carries a price tag of $118. This sum translates into about 85 Euro and is somewhat higher than that of the WD1001FALS. So far, there is no word on when, if ever, the model will become available in other regions.

The prospect of overclocking a computer system

The prospect of overclocking a computer system can be intimidating for new users computer, it can be said. The idea is simple enough; make your computer processors run faster than existing speeds. The execution of this idea however, can be anything but simple.

The prospect of overclocking a computer system can be intimidating for new users computer, it can be said. The idea is simple enough; make your computer run faster processor speeds than existing. The execution of this idea however, can be anything but simple.

At the beginning of this Pandua, we will explore the process of overclocking processors, motherboards and memory to achieve a more rapid but stable computer. The article will guide readers step-by-step through the overclocking understanding of concepts, how to find hardware overclocking options and the process of overclocking. If you are considering; consider yourself an expert, please continue to read and there are a few tips and tricks included in this guide and you may belun know ...

What is Overclocking?

Overclocking a computer processor or memory causes a speed that exceeds the speed set by the manufacturer. A 2.4GHz processor can be overclocked to 2.5GHz or 2.6GHz, while the memor 200MHz to 220MHz can be encouraged or higher. Additional speeds lead to more work being carried out by the processor and / or memory within a certain time period, increasing the computing performance of a PC.

Overclocking can damage the computer's hardware?

Yes, but it is generally not possible. In general, when the computer hardware pushed beyond its limits, it will be locked? Destroyed or show no clear error processor or memory may have permanently damaged. Exceptions to this are if the voltage-extreme voltage used when trying to overclock, but since most motherboards do not support the voltage is too high, and this guide, it is not a problem.

Processor-processor for the older, heat is also a factor. Processor-modern processors have thermal sensors that will slow down or turn off the PC if it is too hot, older CPUs do not have these safety devices. The best know example of this is AMD AthlonXP (socket A/462), which is famous for burning yourself less than 5 seconds if the heatsink is not installed properly or not installed at all.

The purpose of Overclocking

The most obvious reason and the real on overclock a computer system is to add performance without the cost. Overclocking the processor and system memory can be a solid boost gaming performance, benchmark scores and even the desktop tasks simple. Because almost every processor and memory modules are overclockable to modern minimal that a small degree, only a few considerations to not try.
The role of the CPU, motherboard and memory in overclocking

When overclocking a computer, processor, system memory and motherboards all have an important part and different to play in the process. Overclocking capabilities of each component has an important influence on the overall success of the experiment. Let us look more closely at each component

Processor (CPU): As readers will know, two important variables to take care how fast a modern processor berjalan.internal multipliernya and FSB (Front Side Bus) motherboards and memory settings. FSB is the effective speed of data transfer between processor and main memory (this is also the basis of the system memory speed running), while the multiplier is an internal indicator of the speed of the processor.

Processor speed equal to the multiplier (x) FSB in MHz. Therefore, an Intel processor with a multiplier 16 to work with a FSB speed of 200MHz will run at 3.2GHz. There are two ways one way the processor can be made to run faster is by increasing Multipliernya, or increase the FSB speed.

Many modern processors have a 'Multiple Lock "which prevents users from changing settings of the internal multiplier partially or fully, so increasing FSB speed toward a common and effective method of overclocking.

Memory: A speed of main memory system determines the speed of data transfer between processor, memory and the rest of the system. As you can imagine, this is the most important variables to calculate the performance in some systems. In all Intel and AMD systems are modern, FSB speed is directly linked to the speed of the memory directly, so the faster the memory is clocked, the faster the processor can run, because the speed of processing = (internal multiplier (x) FSB Speed). This can be changed, only the 1:1 ratio between FSB and memory speed is the most desirable for dioverclocking.

AMD Athlon 64 system to do something a little different way, because the memory controller to be part of the CPU itself, so there is no conventional FSB which carry data from the processor to the rest of the system. Overclocking memory is still working very major in the same way, though technology / terminology has changed. More on this in our AMD overclocking section below.

Motherboard: Just as the motherboard is the heart of any computer system, is also the center for overclocking efforts. Motherboard circuit that connect the processor and memory together, and its BIOS options to determine how and how much they can overclock. Even the quality of the highest memory and most overclockable processor can meet nothing if it is placed on a motherboard with no or limited overclocking options in its BIOS, or a board equipped with a new, poorly implemented or chipset cores logically unstable.

again, each of the above components depend on each other when it comes to overclocking.
Consideration of hardware for overclocking: Hot and cold
The faster a computer run, the more heat produced. This is true when the voltage is increased to supply the components given increased, a standard method of overclocking. Excess heat in the processor, motherboard chipset or memory can cause instability and drastic reduction in the system, and may be one limiting factor in determining the maximum overclock for a system.

Heatsinks stock is included with most processor-processor with perfect enough to cool them in the stock speed, but may not handle the additional heat generated by overclocking well, especially if the chassis of the computer does not have a well ventilated. Readers can better invest in one of the many cooling solutions on the market, or at least buy some fans blow air circulation to ensure better. let's see here for some idea of cooling. The same for the chipset and to a degree level of restrictions, namely memory.

Hardware Considerations for Overclocking

It is important also to monitor the number of processors that will be hot out because 'the stifling heat related to' security system made by AMD Athlon 64 and Intel Pentium 4 processor. If the CPU is too hot, they themselves will slow down drastically to avoid the fire. The user will recognize this in conjunction with using the term to slow down the system and benchmarks, which provides additional guidance that is needed pendiginan if they want to continue overclocking. Regarding the stifling heat did not happen in regular use on a processor, but overclocking is not regular use.

To monitor the processor's temperature, look for 'health system setting' or similar entry in the BIOS screen.

Nevertheless some CPUs run hotter than others (Pentium processor-processor tends to cause a little more heat than AMD), all modern processor temperature between 35 ° C -65 ° C. If the processor that indicates the temperature above 70 ° C in the BIOS, this means stability and opportunity will be overcloking potential limiting factor in the stability and overclocking the computer. Also a time to consider a new heatsink and chassis better ventilated.

Power Supply Requirements

Overclocking a computer system also increases the amount of power produced, and this may lead to instability of the system if only 300Watt power supply. When overclocking a modern Pentium 4 or Athlon 64 systems, plan to buy a minimum of 400Watts power supply.

Reboot again spontaneously while loading is usually a sign of power availability is not enough. When this happens, surely it's time to buy a new power supply. On that note, while powersupplies full of blinding lights, it does not mean having to have a good quality, or power efficiency. In our experience, which supports powersupplies or Active PFC PFC is the best choice.
Principles of Overclocking

Overclocking is a science is not clear; processor depends on the stability of the motherboard and memory to achieve overclocking, and vice versa. If one of these components can not be run at a pressure of overclocking, it would limit the others too.

Hot, voltage stability and power supply are also relevant at the successful overclocking. Excess heat, not enough or too much voltage and unstable reliability can all cause premature failure of an overclocking adventure, and it is almost impossible to pinpoint what is causing the problem.

To avoid frustration as much as possible, is to be patient. Follow the directions below and take overclocking with one small step at the same time, so when it crashes you will have a smaller set of potential issues to troubleshoot.

Preparation Facing Overclocking

In getting the best results from existing hardware, the most recent drivers and latest BIOS version for your motherboard that needs to be provided. System benchmarks should run pre-overclocking to establish a performance of 'back line'.

Readers should visit the motherboard manufacturers web site that you use to get the latest set of drivers your motherboard, as well as the latest BIOS version. BIOS versions may add Newer overclocking options and stability, so it's always a good first step.

Set a rear line Performance
To get an idea of how to improve overclocking performance of a computer, it is important to take the benchmarks and establish a rearguard performance to the system.
Download, install and run the following benchmarks:
• 3Dmark2001SE
• X2: Threat (download the demo and use 'run as the benchmark' checkbox whenloading.)
• PCMARK04
• Sandra 2005 (CPU, multimedia and memory benchmarks)

Record the results of each test. This will be the basis of performance, a level to measure the teroverclock computer systems.
The reader should also need to consider download Prime95 burn-in programs, because it is very useful to test the pressure of overclocked PC to ensure stability.

Testing BIOS Option

Because the motherboard to control the options you have for overclocking, it is important to notice the BIOS (Basic I / O System) the pages of the motherboard is to test the available options.
Reboot the computer and go to the BIOS screen by pressing the DEL key repeatedly during startup.
Note that some motherboards react to different keys to enter the BIOS. Dell Computer as an example often rely on F2 or F8, manufacturers while others give the option F10 to get to the BIOS.
When the BIOS appears on the screen you will be greeted with a blue menu with about a dozen choices. Navigate the list using the arrows, and press 'Enter' to select a menu. When you are finished press the ESC key to exit, and save or cancel any changes you make to the BIOS settings.

The first feature you are looking for is the CPU and FSB speed adjustment controller. In general, this will be in the BIOS that is 'frequency / voltage control'.
BIOS Overclocking Options continued
As seen in the screenshots below, this page will contain adjustments FSB voltage control and adjustment controls.
Increasing the FSB or 'CPU host frequency' or (clock or FSB motherboard or a large number of other terms for the same thing) would increase the FSB speed of the motherboard, overclocking the processor and memory at the same time.
Increasing the core voltage to the CPU, memory or chipset will take more power to the components to assist in the heat while increasing stability.
This page may also contain a memory divider options depending on the motherboard.
Everything needed to overclock this system to the BIOS are at this.
Different motherboard bios will look different and use the names for different menus and options, but the option itself should be grouped together in one menu as seen above. If the memory timing options are not visible, try pressing CTRL ALT F1 when entering the BIOS.
BIOS page that both should be recognized as the 'PC health status ", or similar.

Software To Overclock PC

Understanding Overclock? Overclock (OC) is one way of improving the performance of computers, hardware components such good performance is increased manually, automatically, or with the help of special software Overclock. How to overclock Vga Card, memory, or how to overclock the processor can be done various ways according to the needs of the user / user's own computer. Usually the components we purchase goods from the factory is the standard starting from the speed, performance and so on. But overclocking lovers see from the other side and can improve the performance of the hardware is working at above normal considering kesetabilan, speed,

benefits and enhance knowledge in the field of overclocking.

Components are often used to increase computer performance are:
1. Processor or CPU (AMD / Intel is commonly used)
2. VGA Card or Display Card (ATI GForce or commonly used)
3. Memory or RAM (memory typically upper class who have heatspreader)

Main components of the mainboard overclocking, because the hardware that we use to support the mainboard because it would waste anything as good stuff without a good mainboard support can not be maximal performance. To maximize the overclock performance we can use the latest mainboard chipset or mainboard that has solid capacitors. Mainboard themselves have the main components such as BIOS. The BIOS is the basic input output system, a good mainboard BIOS has complete facilities such as setting Processor, VGA, Memory, Input Voltage and heat can monitor the hardware, even the fan speed (fan) can tedeteksi well. The Overclocker who are experts usually use Flashing or Modding Hard to outsmart the components can use / replace with potentiometer or with pencil and wire (at the previous AMD Modding just scratched the AMD processor line). The expert overclockers or the master to make changes based on their logic, regardless of ability limitations.

How to overclock the processor, how to Overclock Vga Card, How to Overclock memory can usually be done in various ways.

For beginners like I usually use Special Overclock Software, Software Bechmark and monitoring hardware / hardware components as seen in this way is more secure and easier to learn

Building a budget Vista PC

I’m sending my MacBook Pro to an Apple repair center today because of the shutdown problem. According to an Apple tech support, the repair process could take up to 2 - 3 weeks depending on the problem. I cannot work without a computer for 3 weeks so I decided to build myself a PC and run Windows Vista RC1 on it.
Here’s the spec:
It took me about 1.5 hours to build the computer, not bad for a guy who hasn’t build his own PC for a very long time. The most tricky part when building this PC was figuring out how to install the front USB/Firewire ports to the motherboard. The motherboard manual do not provide enough information. Luckily, I found this guide on how to install the usb port.
The installation of Windows Vista RC1 was fast and easy. Windows Vista installation process is a huge improvement over previous versions. I tested Vista a few months ago and it took a very long time for the installers to load the files.
Vista did not have a driver for my PCI wireless network card, so I had to pull a very long cable from my router to the PC so I can run Windows Update. Windows Update did find a driver for my wireless network card, once it installed the correct driver.
For the next few weeks, I’m going to live on the bleeding edge by using a release candidate software on my main computer. I’ll be posting more Windows Vista related posts on this blog for the next few weeks.

    Single-chip Cloud Computer

    Overview

Intel Labs has created an experimental “Single-chip Cloud Computer,” (SCC) a research microprocessor containing the most Intel Architecture cores ever integrated on a silicon CPU chip – 48 cores. It incorporates technologies intended to scale multi-core processors to 100 cores and beyond, such as an on-chip network, advanced power management technologies and support for “message-passing.”
Architecturally, the chip resembles a cloud of computers integrated into silicon. The novel many-core architecture includes innovations for scalability in terms of energy-efficiency including improved core-core communication and techniques that enable software to dynamically configure voltage and frequency to attain power consumptions from 125W to as low as 25W.
This represents the latest achievement from Intel’s Tera-scale Computing Research Program. The research was co-led by Intel Labs Bangalore, India, Intel Labs Braunschweig, Germany and Intel Labs researchers in the United States.

    Inside the Single-chip Cloud Computer

The name “Single-chip Cloud Computer” reflects the fact that the architecture resembles a scalable cluster of computers such as you would find in a cloud, integrated into silicon.
    The research chip features:
    • 24 “tiles” with two IA cores per tile
    • A 24-router mesh network with 256 GB/s bisection bandwidth
    • 4 integrated DDR3 memory controllers
    • Hardware support for message-passing

In a sense, the SCC is a microcosm of cloud datacenter. Each core can run a separate OS and software stack and act like an individual compute node that communicates with other compute nodes over a packet-based network.
One of the most important aspects of the SCC's network fabric architecture is that it supports "scale-out" message-passing programming models that have been proven to scale to 1000s of processors in cloud datacenters. Though each core has 2 levels of cache, there is no hardware cache coherence support among cores in order to simplify the design, reduce power consumption and to encourage the exploration of datacenter distributed memory software models, on-chip. Intel researchers have successfully demonstrated message-passing as well as software-based coherent shared memory on the SCC.
Fine-grained power management is a focus of the chip as well. Software applications are given control to turn cores on and off or to change their performance levels, continuously adapting to use the minimum energy needed at a given moment. The SCC can run all 48 cores at one time over a range of 25W to 125W and selectively vary the voltage and frequency of the mesh network as well as sets of cores. Each tile (2 cores) can have its own frequency, and groupings of four tiles (8 cores) can each run at their own voltage.

    A Platform for Software Innovation

Intel Labs believes the SCC is an ideal research platform to help accelerate many-core software research and advanced development. Intel researchers have already ported a variety of applications to the SCC, including web servers, physics modeling, and financial analytics. By the middle of 2010, Intel Labs anticipates having dozens of industry and academic research partners conducting advanced software research on the SCC hardware platform. Please submit this application if you would like to express an interest in collaborating with Intel on the SCC.

Asus' G51J: Affordable Core i7 Mobile Gaming?

Can upper-mainstream gaming and true mobility coexist? We’ve seen many attempts (perhaps hundreds?) by vendors during the last several years to pack desktop
gaming horsepower in a portable package. But performance lagged and did not live up to the claims. We almost got there in 2004 with ATI's Radeon 9600 XT-based Mobility Radeon 9700. Yet, at that time, mobile processing still fell short. Intel released its Core Duo mobile processors two years later, but new games made the elder GPU obsolete. While CPU and GPU manufacturers continuously chase the rainbow of efficiency, technological convergence appears as mythical as the pot of gold at the rainbow’s end.
There have been "desktop-replacement” PCs that are notebooks almost in name only, such as Eurocom’s recently-reviewed Core i7-based D900F Panther. Perhaps light enough to carry from your office to the parking lot, such behemoths appeal mostly to those who want a desktop they can take home rather than a computing device they can take anywhere. This explains the drive by Intel to put Core i7 technology in a smaller, more heat-efficient product suitable for a wider user base, which we recently revealed as Clarksfield.
Always near the forefront of mobile technology, Asus jumped at the chance to build a gaming notebook using the new processor series. Yet, in an effort to reduce both heat and cost, Asus chose a far different product than the i7-920XM that Chris reviewed. Running 400 MHz slower and with 2MB less cache, the G51J’s i7-720QM allows Asus to price its product within easy reach of many mainstream gamers. Let’s see how it stacks up to our most modern gaming notebooks.

Pros: Great Performence; Hardware aware; Small footprint; Fast; Loads quickly; Easy to use; Many usable features; Uses less resources than Vista; Great for gaming

Windows 7 is clean, simple and easy to use. its everything vista should have been! while running vista on my laptop i constantly recieved runtime errors, no more thanks to windows 7! i have only rebooted for installations and i've had windows 7 since oct 12th!  the only problem i had while installing was the fact that i had to reinstall the drivers for my graphics card, not a huge deal as the drivers are redily avaiable on the toshiba website.

I love the snap feature with the browers, although i still find myself flicking between tabs.
windows 7 is a excellent stable operating system, much like XP but WAY better. its easy to upload photos, videos and burn cds. i was thinking about switching to mac until windows 7 came into my life, now i have no reason to switch to a more expensive machine! im loving windows 7 and i have recommened it to friends and family and will keep doing it! great job microsoft, you finally did it. MACS now have a true challenge from Microsoft for ease of use and "coolness" - maybe the ads will now show the MAC guy as a schmuck.

    Introducing The Computer of 2010

For decades, silicon, with its talent for carrying electrons, has been the mainstay of computing. But for a variety of reasons (see "The Coming Light Years"), we're rapidly approaching the day when electrons will no longer cut it. Within 10 years, in fact, silicon will fall to the computer scientist's triple curse: "It's bulky, it's slow, and it runs too hot." At this point, computers will need a new architecture, one that depends less on electrons and more on... well...what else? Optics.

With the assistance of award-winning firm frogdesign (the geniuses behind the look of the early Apple and many of today's supercomputers and workstations), Forbes ASAP has designed and built (virtually, of course) the computer of 2010.

Whenever possible, our newly designed computer replaces stodgy old electrons with shiny, cool-running particles of light--photons. Electrons remain, doing everything they do best (switching), while photons do what they do best (traveling very, very fast). In other words, we've brought the speed and bandwidth of optical communications inside the computer itself. This mix is called optoelectronics, another buzzword we encourage you to start using immediately.

The result is a computer that is far more reliable, cheaper, and more compact--the entire thing, believe it or not, is about the size of a Frisbee--than the all-electronic solution. But above all, optoelectronic computing is faster than what's available today. How fast? In a decade, we believe, you will be able to buy at your local computer shop the equivalent of today's supercomputers.

How likely is it that this computer will be built? Some of its components are slightly pie-in-the-sky. But many others have already been developed or are being developed by some of the best scientific minds in the country. Sooner or later, and probably sooner, an optoelectronic computer will exist...and it will probably look a lot like ours.

Okay, so we've built a revolutionary new optical computer just in time for 2010. What do we do with it now?

Everything. Because it's small (about the size of a Frisbee) and because it has the power of today's supercomputer, the 2010 PC will become the repository of information covering every aspect of our daily life. Our computer, untethered and unfettered by wires and electrical outlets, becomes something of a key that unlocks the safety deposit box of our lives.

When we plug our 2010 PC into the wall of our home, our house will become smart, anticipating our every desire. At work, we'll plug it into our desk, which will become a gigantic interactive screen. When it communicates wirelessly with a small mobile device, we'll have a personal digital assistant--on steroids.

SECURITY The PC will be protected from theft, thanks to an advanced biometric scanner that can recognize your fingerprint.

INTERFACE You'll communicate with the PC primarily with your voice, putting it truly at your beck and call.
